Huron Entrepreneur Fund (HEF)
Investing in Local Enterprise and Community Well‑Being
The Sunset Community Foundation Huron Entrepreneur Fund (HEF) is a unique, partnership-driven initiative supporting both local entrepreneurs and charitable organizations across Huron County.
Established in 2021 by local business leaders, the Fund is permanently endowed, creating a sustainable, long-term source of investment in our communities.
Through an innovative model that blends impact investing, local entrepreneurship, and charitable granting, HEF ensures that contributions made today continue to strengthen Huron County for generations to come.
A Fund Built on Partnership
A key driver of HEF’s success is its collaboration with Community Futures Huron, a not-for-profit organization supporting local entrepreneurs since 1993.
Through this partnership:
-
A majority of HEF’s capital is invested locally through Community Futures Huron as accessible loan funding
-
These investments help businesses innovate, expand, and create local jobs
-
Returns generated through lending flow back into HEF, increasing its granting capacity each year
This circular model ensures every dollar supports both economic growth and community well-being.
Growing Momentum = Granting Impact
Since 2023, HEF has invested $7,500 into local health-focused charitable initiatives:
-
2026: REACH Huron — $2,000
-
2025: Clinton Public Hospital Foundation — $2,000
-
2024: Alexandra Marine & General Hospital Foundation — $2,000
-
2023: Gateway Centre for Excellence in Rural Health — $1,500

REACH Huron received $2,000 to help run their AgriGirls Rise: A Leadership Celebration Program.
AgriGirls Rise is designed to empower girls in the Specialized High Skills Major Agriculture Program from all high schools in Huron County by giving them a dedicated space to explore leadership, celebrate their achievements, and envision their future impact on the agri‑food sector. Held on International Women’s Day, the event highlights the essential role women play in shaping sustainable agriculture & strengthens students’ confidence as they prepare to transition into post‑secondary pathways, apprenticeships, or the workforce.
